Educator and Trainer
Jackie Ranger is an effective educator and trainer with over 25 years' experience in educational settings across the primary, secondary, further and higher education sector. She is the newly appointed Principal of John Henry Newman Academy in Oxford, a Church of England School under the Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust (ODST) and former Acting Headteacher of Krishna-Avanti Primary School in Harrow.
Jackie's leadership roles span over 15 years during which time she has significantly raised achievement and contributed positively to the process of school improvement. In 2004/2005 Jackie became the First Black female President of Birmingham Association of the National Union of Teachers (NUT). Whilst in post, she set up a Black Teachers' Group increasing the numbers of 'active' Black teachers and raising an awareness of issues that affect Black Teachers within the Union. As an Assistant Headteacher at Perry Beeches Secondary School, Jackie wrote an MA accredited Teaching and Learning Fellowship for teachers across 16 schools within the Leadership Incentive Group, building a culture of enquiry and reflection to ensure that everyone contributed to the development of the school as a learning community. Under her leadership, the school became a centre of excellence for Study Support and Teaching and Learning.
For over 6 years, Jackie worked as an Education Consultant and Community Activist with government, local authorities, schools and communities, locally, nationally and internationally in Northern Ireland, Jamaica and Florida. She has experience of public speaking, research and consultancy in leadership and management, social justice, equality and diversity, study support, parent partnership, student leadership and teaching and learning. Jackie has been invited to facilitate workshops at the annual Cambridge International Education Conference to provide participants the time to reflect on previous practice and gain new ideas. In her roles as Critical Friend for Quality in Study Support (QiSS); Consultant Leader for National College for School Leadership (NCSL); Leading Aspect Award Verifier; and Leading Parent Partnership Award Adviser she has supported the process of self-review and evaluation and quality assured schools and centres of learning.
As an Associate Consultant for RMC consultants UK, Jackie worked within the broad field of, leadership, diversity, equity and social justice, not only diversifying the face of leadership, but enabling a new cadre of leaders, including young leaders, to lead radically differently. She contributed to the design and delivery of 'Investing in Diversity', and 'Diverse Leaders for Tomorrow', accredited leadership programmes for Black and Global Majority middle managers aspiring to senior management and headship, for the London Centre for Leadership in Learning, Institute of Education and University of London, the National College for School Leadership, Leeds and Yorkshire and Humberside.
Jackie encompasses an unusual and dynamic repertoire of skills, knowledge and attributes to make a valuable contribution to education at both strategic and operational levels.
